Welcome Reception


Held in the Riverbank foyer of the Adelaide Convention Centre, the Welcome Reception provides the perfect opportunity to catch up with old friends and connect with new ones prior to the official conference proceedings commencing.

21AFMC Welcome Reception tickets are inclusive in conference registrations. Additional tickets may be purchased at point of registration for $75 per person.

BBQ and Lab Tours

During the 21AFMC there will be the opportunity to attend Laboratory Tours on Tuesday 11 December 2018, at the campuses listed below.

Please select which tour you would like to attend during the registration process.

University of Adelaide Thebarton Campus from 5.00pm - 7.00pm (small groups of 10 - 15 vistors per group/ 45 minute duration)

Tour the following areas;

  • Adelaide Wind Tunnel, with low speed (3m x 3m x 33m/s) and high speed (2.75m x 2m x 50m/s) sections
  • Prototype solar receivers and the combustion hybrids + solar simulator and other combustion rigs
  • Water channel, fitted with laser diagnostics


For Thebarton Campus Tours please assemble at the Adelaide Convention Centre Western Entrance, Montefiore Road by 4.45pm. The first bus will depart at 5.00pm sharp. A second bus will depart at approximately 5.30pm.


University of Adelaide North Terrace Campus Laser Laboratories
from 6.00pm - 7.00pm (small groups of 10 - 15 visitors per group/ 45 minute duration)

Tour the following areas;

  • Two phase flow laboratory: unique facility providing well-characterised inflow and boundary conditions, plus solar technology aerodynamics, with PIV & nephelometry
  • Combustion laboratory: unique facility for simultaneous imaging in flames with strong interference (soot or other particle) of temperature (TLAF), soot volume fraction (LII), primary particle diameter (TR-LII), OH (PLIF) and/or velocity (PIV);
  • Optical techniques and applications: high flux solid state solar thermal simulator (3kW power and 30MW/m2 flux), spatially resolved planar particle temperature measurement (laser induced thermos-phosopohoresis); pressurised sooting flame reactor

  • KC Wind tunnel

  • Anechoic Chambers and aero-acoustic chambers

A BBQ will be held on the lawns of The University of Adelaide North Terrace Campus from 7.00pm - 9.00pm.

21AFMC BBQ and Lab Tour tickets are inclusive in conference registrations. Additional tickets may be purchased at point of registration for $35.00 per person.

Gala Dinner

The Gala Dinner will be held in the Panorama Ballroom within the Adelaide Convention Centre and overlooking the River Torrens, newly refurbished Adelaide Oval and surrounding parklands.

21AFMC Gala Dinner tickets are inclusive in conference registrations. Additional tickets may be purchased at point of registration for $150 per person.
